Our Story

How it all started...

The Point View Baptist Church was organized as The Point View Baptist Church of Christ
March 20, 1898 at the Pleasant Grove School House. The Pleasant Grove School house was located at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery on Lanier Road. Brother W.S. Wilson was instrumental in the organization of the church and served as the first Pastor through July 1899. The church joined the East Fork Baptist Association July 10, 1899. Sunday School was organized March 12, 1904.
For fifteen years until the first church house was built the congregation met at the Pleasant
Grove School house, in tents and under brush arbors for service. The Point View Baptist Church petitioned for admittance into the Kaufman Baptist Association on September 2, 1915.

Expanding the vision...

The Point View Baptist Church dedication served for the new church house was May 6, 1917. By the year 1949 because of much needed repair, a new building was needed. The present building was torn down and a new building was built. The first prayer meeting was conducted in the new church building September 7, 1949. The Church voted on March 3, 1954 to build a 24x50 building that would consist of nine classrooms and add a baptistry to the church building. Dedication service for the new educational building (this is the building we refer to as the annex building) was June 27, 1954. The Point View Baptist Church burned on August 24, 1968. Fire departments from Seagoville, Crandall and The Federal Correctional Institution were summoned but were unable to save the main church building. A new church building became the centralized goal of the church. An additional three acres of land was purchased and on November 6, 1968 a Ground Breaking Ceremony was held for the new church building. Dedication services were held October 19, 1969.
The church voted to build a new parsonage September 8, 1971. The old parsonage was sold and removed from the church property. The parsonage was completed October 1972. September 13, 1992 the church voted to build an educational building. Dedication services for
The Kara Simons Memorial Building was held on August 22, 1993.
February 18, 1996 the church voted to build an education building consisting of four classrooms, prayer room and one rest room. Classes were held in the new youth building May 5, 1996. An additional 4.3 acres was purchased January 15, 1997.

Where we are headed...

From the first service in a small school building on March 29, 1898 to the present, the Point View Baptist Church with the leadership of the Holy Spirit, has continued to grow and prosper. The church offers one Sunday morning services, and a Wednesday evening service. It maintains ministries in music, children, youth, young adults, seniors, missions and outreach. Let us go forth as disciples to glorify God by giving of ourselves as we witness to our neighbors, serve our community and grow in wisdom through the power of the Holy Spirit and the love of Jesus Christ.
